TOY FAIR 2000!
Text and Photos by Daniel "SwiftEagle" Lipkowitz

On Sunday, February 13, 2000, I had the privilege of visiting the Hasbro Toy Fair showroom in New York City and, on behalf of Altered States Magazine, was permitted to tour the facility and to take a number of photographs of the Transformers items on display.

As time was limited, I spent as much of it as possible taking pictures under the assumption that I would have time to study them at leisure when I prepared this report. Therefore, I do not have too much information that isn't evident from the images here. I'll attempt to provide hopefully useful observations (or outright guesswork) where I can.

The Transformers section was significantly larger than at Toy Fair '99, where a small, dimly-lit space was divided between Beast Wars and Animorphs tables. This year, a full, bright room was devoted to the line, with tables and shelves representing the various divisions of the toy series.

PART 1: BEAST WARS FOX KIDS REPAINTS

The first table was devoted to the Beast Wars. On display along with many of last year's Transmetals 2 toys were the Fox Kids Transmetals repaints of Rattrap, Rhinox, Waspinator and Airazor, as well as the bizarre and mysterious "Mutant Beast Wars" toys. Charles Langley, the Hasbro demonstrator for the room, explained that the company wanted to keep the Beast Wars brand name alive while it was in weekday reruns, hence the creation of new molds for the seemingly defunct line.
