TOY FAIR 2001: [Remember - every picture links to a larger size!] Star Wars Amply covered by other online toy news sites, this year's Star Wars display was small but showcased some remarkable improvements in character sculpting and, in a few cases, even articulation. For the first time, Star Wars action figures have been properly scaled to one another, allowing the immense Chewbacca Mechanic (whose feet will apparently poke down into the blister-stand in order to make him fit on a card) to loom over the petite Leia Bespin Escape.
Not available in the showroom was an upcoming assortment of larger or large-accessory-laden characters. This Deluxe line features Luke Skywalker in his Bacta Tank diaper, Princess Leia in her Jabba's Palace bikini and a bare-chested Darth Maul. The fan-choice vote winner Ananaman rounds out the assortment. Ananaman, by the way, wears no clothes at all. As a side note, the non-Deluxe Ketwol (from Star Wars: Special Edition) features removable pants. Looks like Hasbro is taking the Star Wars license in a whole nude direction this year! [Ed. note: That was a joke. I hope.] Of note, though thankfully not bare of anything but paint, was a prototype of Duros, the winner of the first vote-in action figure poll on Hasbro's Star Wars site. Batman About the only thing from the Batman display that this reporter thought was neat was this figure: It's a Giant Walking Head! Hey, that's two this year. Freaky. Altered States Magazine would especially like to thank the kind folks at Hasbro, LEGO, Bandai, Toycom, and the Toy Fair workers for their help.
