TOY FAIR 2001: [Remember - every picture links to a larger size!] LEGO enters the action figure world with a bang this year. Bionicle, springing from the stylings of past LEGO Technic toys such as the Throwbots and Robo-Riders, offers a line of buildable, posable, mechanical heroes called Toa. With exotic names and an intricate mythology, the elemental Toa employ gear-driven actions to compete over ornamental masks called Kanohi. The Toa are accompanied by smaller, priest-like Turaga (sold separately) and can do battle with mechanized, lever-action monsters called Rahi for the fate of the island world of Mata Nui. The multimedia Bionicle legend unfolds throughout the year at www.bionicle.com. Available now in Europe, this creative product line is scheduled for U.S. release in August.

The animalistic Rahi are the servants of the evil Makuta. Rahi will be sold in pairs, and each type features its own distinctive quick-snap attack action. The largest, crab-like Rahi pair is electronic and remote-controlled. Altered States Magazine would especially like to thank the kind folks at Hasbro, LEGO, Bandai, Toycom, and the Toy Fair workers for their help.
