TOY FAIR 2001: [Remember - every picture links to a larger size!]
DISPLAY INFO Well, we knew going into the Hasbro showroom what we'd be seeing this year. "Robots in Disguise" as far as the eye could see, with nary a Beast Machine in sight. Actually, given the size of the room, the toy turnout was pretty sparse. Autobot and Predacon symbols were plastered across the walls at disorienting angles, with the new "Transformers" logo splashed here and there. A giant Super Fire Convoy-sorry, Optimus Prime image towered terrifyingly over all. For the most part, the pictures should speak for themselves. Hasbro has gone retro in more ways than one with the "Robots in Disguise" line -- the new logo zooms back past 1984 and ends up somewhere in the Seventies. All of the packaging is tri-lingual this year; economical, perhaps, but not the prettiest way to design a card or box. Please note that all of this is mock-up packaging, and designs may change between now and the time when the products hit stores. The toys on display appeared unchanged from the original Japanese Car Robots line. Indeed, word has it that they were simply loose and repackaged imports, so visual details may still change before August, when the line is slated for release. Altered States Magazine would especially like to thank the kind folks at Hasbro, LEGO, Bandai, Toycom, and the Toy Fair workers for their help.
