TOY FAIR 2001: [Remember - every picture links to a larger size!]
PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS We were treated to a brief video presentation. It started with Tom Hanks' recent appearance on "The Tonight Show," featuring the actor's unique Sinatra-style take on the classic Transformers theme. Following this was a fast-paced montage of clips from the Car Robots cartoon and images of toys in the line. Only toys that were in the showroom appeared in the video.
The video was accompanied by a new Transformers theme song which may or may not be the opening for the new cartoon. The beat was frenetic. The vocals were emphatic. The lyrics were familiar. The music was... interesting.
Oh, what the heck. Have a listen. This theme music will undoubtedly be the subject of much debate. Although it does briefly include the classic Transformers /lyrics and tune (Hasbro must have repurchased the rights if this song is intended for broadcast, as Mainframe was unable to use it in "Beast Wars" several years ago), the rest of the song is quite original and distinct. As always, some will love it, some will hate it. The beat goes on. Intended as a resource for interested retailers, these signs sat below the video screen. Vehicles, vehicles. 2/20/2001 Update: The prices you see are what Hasbro charges retailers for their products, not what retailers will charge consumers. Don't be upset by this; it's a fact of the business world. That's how retailers make their money. The showroom's sole nod to Beast Machines, this slightly flash-splashed poster lurked in a corner by the door, along with a small sign of information for the retailer. Altered States Magazine would especially like to thank the kind folks at Hasbro, LEGO, Bandai, Toycom, and the Toy Fair workers for their help.
