Autobot commander Optimus Prime returns once again in the form of a semi-truck. Nostalgia abounds with features like a Matrix sculpted into Prime's chest behind a flip-down panel and his Mini-con, Sparkplug - whose head and coloration bear an uncanny resemblance to the classic character Bumblebee. When the truck's cab is transformed, an infrared signal makes the trailer unfold automatically into a base for Prime and numerous Mini-cons, featuring lights, sounds, projectiles and launching ramps. Prime's robot mode can also combine with the trailer to form a larger, powered-up Optimus Prime (whose lower body appears to be lamentably immobile). The prototype toy and art conflict as to whether the details of the super-robot's head will be silver or yellow. Clear plastic is used in Prime's hand-held weapons, suggesting that he will have electronic lights in his fists to make them - and the Air Defense Team Mini-con sword - glow.
